The journey has begun! After months of meticulous planning, countless discussions, and lots of hard work, it is extremely exciting to be able to finally share with you what we are doing here at Condor Computing. At Condor, our vision has three goals: 1st, establish a cutting-edge startup company based in the USA; 2nd, build a world-class microprocessor design team, and 3rd, develop a groundbreaking CPU core that will set new benchmarks in performance and energy efficiency.
Our new CPU will be based on the RISC-V ISA, which is poised to expand into a multitude of markets in the years to come. RISC-V is already firmly established in many markets, such as storage, consumer electronics and AI accelerators. With Condor’s exceptional performance and energy efficiency, RISC-V will become a formidable contender in industries ranging from data centers and automotive to high-end mobile devices.
It has been more than a decade since I last worked on a brand-new processor. After developing mobile SoCs, FPGAs and AI chips, I am very happy to get back to working on fetching, decoding, and executing instructions as efficiently as possible. It is also going to be fun to get to work with the new team at Condor. I have worked with some of the Condor team before, but for many this will be our first time to collaborate. The excitement of bringing together a group of brilliant and motivated individuals to tackle a big challenge is what really keeps me fired up every day.
While many of the Condor team are located in Austin, we are actively seeking top talent across North America to join our new team. If we have learned anything from the Covid years, it is that skilled engineers can be effective from anywhere, provided time zone differences remain manageable. We already have team members signed up from the Bay Area to Raleigh, and we look forward to adding Canada soon. Over the coming months and years, I plan to post here regularly to talk about some of the steps, and maybe some of the missteps, that we take along the way to launching our first product. For now, it is tremendous progress to have a rapidly growing team, a new official corporate registration, a new bank account, some new computers to play with. From here, the sky is the limit.
